3: SHAMBLEMATHS - Shamblemaths
Selected by: Raffaella Berry
Country: Norway
Sub-genre: Eclectic prog
Description: For those who like their progressive rock to be all over the place, Shamblemaths’ eponymous debut album will feel like Christmas come early! Deftly blending influences from Zeuhl, Avant, symphonic, folk, metal and what-not in an exciting whole, the album includes an ambitious, multi-part, 27-minute epic with a healthy side of humour. Shamblemaths is another winner from the thriving Norwegian prog scene, and one of those rare albums that manages to be modern, without neglecting the genre’s past glories.

4: JPL - Retrospections Volume II
Selected by: André de Boer
Country: France
Sub-genre: Progressive eclectic rock
Description: Well, what can I say. This is the sixth JPL solo album by Jean Pierre Louveton's (renowned for his work with French progsters Némo and other solo projects). Now, when I say Némo that means superb and complex compositions and superb musical talents. You know that. Similarly here, every note and every twist fits perfectly and is played perfectly by Jean Pierre on lead guitar and a little help from his highly talented musical friends. Highly recommended, a must-listen contemporary classic.

5: THANK YOU SCIENTIST - Stranger Heads Prevail
Selected by: Andy Read
Country: USA
Sub-genre: Alternative progressive rock with jazz influences
Description: In addition to the traditional band format, this American septet has a sax player, trumpeter and a violinist. With song titles such as The Somnambulist, A Wolf In Cheap Clothing and Rube Goldberg Variations, you know this second album is never gonna be a simple affair. It is however an extraordinarily good, exhilarating and inventive blend of progressive rock and jazz - with a whole encyclopedia of other influences added. I really enjoyed their debut album, Maps of Non-Existent Places. This is even better!
