1:  AIRBAG - Disconnected

Selected by: Andy Read
Country:  UK
Sub-genre:  Progressive rock

Description:  If you enjoy heavily textured prog rock spread across an epic, lush tapestry of emotion, then this will be the easiest Buy It Now click you will make all year. Norway's masters of the pristine melody, return with their fourth album, Disconnected, which features six songs reflecting on the theme of alienation between the individual and society. Soulful vocals, mix with sublime guitar licks and an ever-pervading atmosphere of timeless musical landscapes. And I didn't mention Pink Floyd once!

2:   AM LIMBUS - Somnia

Selected by:  Andy Read
Country:  Germany
Sub-genre:  Progressive art rock electro

DescriptionCombining music with visual art, this quintet out of Freiburg first combined their talents and influences back in 2012. This is their first project, and whilst impossible to pigeonhole, it is a wonderful listen. Not my usual style and all sung in German, but there is an irresistible abundance of great moments, especially from the guitars. Combining prog, art rock, occasional heavy guitars and lots of pop and electronic stylings, Somnia is packed with variety. There is a collection of seven films made by different creators to accompany this album, that you can view from their website too.

3:   SYNDONE - Eros & Thanatos

Selected by:  Raffaella Berry
Country:  Italy
Sub-genre:  Rock progressivo Italiano

Description:  Fans of Italian progressive rock should not miss the latest opus by Syndone, a Turin-based outfit that has been around since 1989. Their sixth album, Eros & Thanatos, is a concept based on the Song of Solomon that combines symphonic lushness, cinematic sweep and a gritty intensity reminiscent of Van Der Graaf Generator. Nik Comoglio’s expressive vocals and the presence of an orchestra lend further appeal to an album, that strives to update the classic symphonic prog sound.

4:  TRETTIOÅRIGA KRIGET - Seaside air

Selected by:  André de Boer
Country:  Sweden
Sub-genre:  Soft progressive rock

Description: This is really something. The band dates back to 1970. That's 46 (forty-six) years ago! And after such a long time and so many albums, they now have their very first one out in English. Imagine what a big step this is for such a band. Personally I can't get into the song Billy, but all the other tracks are just wonderful - even magic - and flawless. In their own words this is a band that has produced "great new music by looking back on its history".

5:   SAVOLDELLI - CASARANO - BARDOSCIA - The Great Jazz Gig In The Sky

Selected by:  Roger Trenwith
Country:  Italy
Sub-genre:  Psychedelic jazz-prog

Description: If you are brave enough to attempt a cover of one of the most iconic rock albums of all time, the only way to do it is to approach it in a radically-different manner. Italian trio Savoldelli Casarano Bardoscia do it in the style of a jazz trio, with added electronica, and have produced a simply stunning album that knocks all other cover versions for six. Marvellous stuff!
