1:  CYDEMIND - Erosion

Selected by:  Raimond Fischbach
Country:  Canada
Sub-genre:  Instrumental prog rock / metal

Description:  This quintet from Montréal marries wonderful violin melodies, in the style of Jean Luc Ponty, with the progressive goodness of Kansas, and some heavy riffing à la Dreamscape. The result is a catchy, entertaining, groovy and at times dizzying mix of prog rock and metal.

2:   LUCIE TREACHER - Wunderkabinett

Selected byRoger Trenwith
Country:  UK
Sub-genre:  Quirkpop-orkestral

Description: A fine introduction into the quirky corners of Lucie Treacher's pop toy box, where all manner of Gamelan instrumentation, combined with a small chamber orchestra set-up, and a winning pop sensibility, make for an intriguing, if way too brief, listen. We need more!

3:   THE PHYSICS HOUSE BAND - Mercury Fountain

Selected byRaffaella Berry
Country:  UK
Sub-genre:  Experimental psychedelic prog

Description: Hailing from Brighton, The Physics House Band is a trio whose heavy, heady sound manages to be firmly rooted in the seventies, while at the same time feeling thoroughly modern. With tantalising touches of jazz and post/math rock to spice up the band’s churning riffs, their debut album, Mercury Fountain, offers a delectable aural feast for all fans of instrumental progressive rock that blends ambiance and aggression. The album was recorded and co-produced by Raven Bush and Joel Magill of Syd Arthur.

4:   AMAROK - Hunt

Selected by:  Andy Read
Country:  Poland
Sub-genre:  Progressive rock

Description: Take the dark tones and melancholy that are the staples of Polish prog and mix them with a a carefully blended selection  of post-progressive rock, ambient, electronica and straight rock. Amarok is essentially a solo project from multi-instrumentalist Michał Wojtas, his fourth under this banner but the first over 13 years. Michał provides excellent lead vocals, though Mariusz Duda of Riverside and Colin Bass of Camel guest on two tracks. Hunt is a superbly executed slab of music that is a treat for those, like me, who appreciate great songwriting, set within mesmerising moods and grooves. I think you need to hear this album.

5:   RICHARD WILEMAN - Ghost (EP)

Selected by:  Roger Trenwith
Country:  UK
Sub-genre:  No genre

Description: Richard Wileman is better known as Karda Estra, an eclectic and tasteful instrumental project with modern classical influences. Here, Richard gives us his first solo outing, the reason being as contained herein is a fully formed song, something you will not find in the Karda Estra canon. Ghost the song, is as thoughtful and well constructed as you would hope a song written by Richard to be, and the EP as a whole retains the fragility and intelligence of the main project. This all too short solo EP leaves this listener wanting more.
